PAX East Interview w/ Corey Davin, Co-Founder Spawnsor
Corey Davin, Co-Founder and CEO of Spawnsor, whom I met at PAX, answered a series fo questions I had for him. Find out what Spawnsor is about and a bit about Corey in the interview.
What is Spawnsor and how does it work?
Spawnsor is a kickass website where competitive gamers can build profiles, show their skills, and connect with sponsors.
How it works is simple! Gamers and teams sign up and customize their profiles; adding information about themselves, uploading photos, sharing videos, and displaying tournament / league results. Once the profile is completed they can start searching and applying for sponsorships.
Can anyone participate? Or is it limited to gamers who are already considered professionals?
Yes, any competitive gamer and team can create a profile and apply for sponsorships. All skill levels are welcome, from amateurs to professionals.
What does it cost for those interested in searching for sponsors? For those that are wanting to sponsor gamers?
It's completely free for both gamers and sponsors. We do offer different level memberships which include additional features and perks at different pricing tiers.
What gave you the idea to create such a site?
After playing Counter-Strike: Source competitively and managing teams for many years, I found it extremely time consuming and cumbersome to individually contact brands and companies. Since there wasn’t anything out there to help streamline that process, I decided to create a platform streamlining the way gaming teams and sponsors connect.
How was the site idea received by those attending PAX East that you spoke with?
The PAX East attendee's loved the idea, especially the gamers and teams competing in the tournaments. We were able to create a lot of buzz and drive a lot of traffic to our beta signup page.
Obviously, a lot of work is going on behind the scenes. Do you have an estimated launch date for when the site will be live?
We are on schedule to go live in August 2011. Our beta will be complete in just a few weeks.
If you had one selling point for gamers to use this site, what would it be?
We eat, sleep and breathe eSports. We are dedicated to the community and want to help bring eSports to the next level.
Your team will no longer have to email or call companies and hope for a response. Instead we offer a platform where sponsors are actively sponsoring teams and looking to sponsor new teams daily.
If you had one selling point for sponsors to join the site to find gamers, what would it be?
On our platform your company can effectively market and promote their products and services to a passionate audience of gamers and teams that define themselves by the games they play, devices they game on, and the brands that support them.
Tell our readers a bit about yourself:
My name is Corey Davin, I’m 22 years old and have been involved in eSports since 2005 as a player, team manager, and event organizer. I live near Cape Cod, MA and enjoy gaming, modding computers, riding motorcycles and mountain biking.
Who are you and what is your relationship with Spawnsor?
I am Co-Founder and CEO of Spawnsor.
Are you a gamer? If so, what games do you play?
I have a deep passion gaming! I started off playing consoles such as NES, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo 64 (<3 Mario Kart 64). Once I got involved with computers and PC gaming I haven’t looked back, and haven’t owned a console since. Lately I have been addicted to League of Legends and watching Starcraft 2.
What is your current, all-time favorite game?
My all-time favorite game would have to be Counter-Strike: Source. It’s where my love for eSports began.
Where do you see Spawnsor being in the next five years?
I see Spawnsor becoming a mainstream name within the eSports community, known for being the place where gamers and teams get sponsored!
Thank you Corey for taking time to answer these questions and we look forward to seeing Spawnsor in the future.
